The three curved lines are cartoon shorthand, not physics. They work because people instantly read them as “signal.” But the shape is actually wrong. Physically, a dish receives weak radio waves arriving from the satellite as broad, nearly parallel waves, then the curved dish reflects and concentrates them into the receiver in front. When transmitting, it does the reverse: the feed sends energy into the dish, and the dish reflects it outward as a narrow, focused beam aimed at the satellite.
