It makes a decent cup of coffee, and is easy to use, but honestly I think most of it is that coffee addicts feel bizarre affection for anything that caffeinates them. (Speaking as a coffee addict myself)

It’s about the filtering and emulsification. The grounds sit in the water, instead of passing through a filter. Then, when you push the plunger down, it slowly emulsifies the oils in the coffee, giving it a different mouthfeel than drip coffee. It takes a little extra effort, but it does make a lovely cup of coffee.
